The area itself a major employment area in
its own right and is home to a broad spectrum of businesses from financial
institutions, Fortune 1000 companies and medical research and care, to name a
few. Swiss Re, IBM, Traveler's Insurance, Car Quest, PepsiCo, Master Card,
Heineken and many other world renown companies call Westchester home. Armonk is
centrally located in Westchester and the cities of White Plains, Stamford and
Greenwich are all within a 30-minute commute or less! New York City is less
than an hour by car or rail.
Education is a highly valued resource in the
area! This area's outstanding educational facilities and public schools are
sought after. There are also private and parochial schools that add to the
county's available educational alternatives. Many teachers have master's level
degrees. Culturally oriented schools such as The German School, The
French-American School and The Keio Academy (Japanese) are within the county.
There are several colleges, universities, and technological schools that are
located in the area including SUNY school for the Performing Arts at Purchase,
Berkeley College, Manhattanville College, IONA College, and Pace University.
Westchester has an outstanding Community College located in Valhalla, NY,
minutes from Armonk and Bedford. Please see the Local Information button for

The Metro
North Railroad (1-800-638-7646) services Westchester, The Bronx,
Duchess, Fairfield and New Haven counties. The Harlem Line is an essential part
of the Westchester service area.
Nearby Amtrak stops
are located in Croton-Harmon and Stamford, CT. There is also a metroliner to
Washington D.C. that leaves Penn Station hourly from NYC. (1-800-872-7245)
Major highways include Interstates 95, 87,
287 and 684. Local parkways include The Bronx River, Sprain and Saw Mill River
where commercial traffic is not allowed.
The Westchester County Airport is located in
the White Plains area with flights to major cities on the east coast and mid
west. Private plane and jet service is also available. LaGuardia, JFK, Newburgh
and Newark airports are within a 45-55 minute drive. Many local corporations
and private airplane owners keep their aircraft at this recently remodeled
airport. There is a voluntary curfew from 6:30 AM to 11 PM. There is a
comfortable lobby and restaurant in the airport as well as a newsstand and taxi
service.
Bus Service in Westchester is called The
Beeline System (914-682-2020). There are 68 routes with discounts available to
seniors and people with disabilities, as well as monthly passes and "Bargain
Book" discount tickets. Transportation on the Paratransit Service is available
by advanced reservation for those with qualifying disabilities. It is excellent
for those who cannot ride a regular bus or get to a bus stop.
World Class Health Care is available
without going to NYC.
There are several hospitals serving
Westchester County offering outstanding medical, psychiatric and rehabilitative
care. There is a children's rehabilitation hospital located in the Carvel
Center of St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains.
Burke Rehabilitation
Hospital, also in White Plains, is recognized as one of the nation's
leading rehab hospitals assisting people with disabilities resulting from
disease or injury.
The Westchester County
Medical Center, in Valhalla is a regional medical center and a
top-notch teaching hospital. There is specialty, tertiary care facility that
has such highly specialized units as: a Cardiology and Cardiac Surgical unit, a
kidney and liver Transplant unit, a Burn Treatment Center, a Trauma Center, a
24hr STAT Flight service, a new Children's Hospital, and a Cancer Institute to
name a few.
White Plains
Hospital and Medical Center is a 307-bed hospital and just completed a
5.5 million dollar Maternity and Neonatal Center in June 2001. Advanced care
during labor, delivery and Intensive Care for premature and sick newborns is
provided here. Additionally, the WPHMC has a new Cancer Treatment Center and
advanced Breast Care Center.
Greenwich Hospital is a well-rounded
facility with an Adolescent Medicine Department and also the Bendheim Cancer
Center. They have an excellent Community Wellness program open to the public.
Personalized, advanced care is available at
"local" hospitals. They are small enough to treat each patient in a caring,
personalized way, yet large enough to offer the most advanced diagnostics and
treatments possible. Strong traditions of medical excellence bring world-class
innovation, research and technology to their patients. Excellent physicians,
educated at the country's leading medical schools are the norm at Westchester
area hospitals. After all, New York City is only 45 minutes away. There is also
a Veteran's hospital located in Montrose, NY, approximately a one-hour drive.
