About Trudi Gallagher

Trudi Gallagher has been a Realtor since 1983 and has the CBR (Certified Buyer Representative) designation. She previously worked in relocation services in Hong Kong, Manila (Philippines) and Beijing (China). Trudi is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She has traveled the world and is also fluent in German, Swiss and French. She is the winner of numerous multimillion-dollar transaction awards and a company top producer award.

On a personal note, Trudi was born in Zurich, Switzerland; grew up, did all her schooling there and is a College Graduate majoring in Business Administration, Liberal Arts and Languages. After graduating, Trudi took a job as Assistant to the Vice President and General Manager, American Express Company in Zurich and, after a couple of years transferred to their Lausanne (Switzerland) office in the same capacity with the additional benefit of solidifying her French language skills.

After a couple of years, Trudi decided to immigrate to the United States and settled for a while in New York City, where she met Hugh Gallagher. They decided to marry, made Westchester County their home, and eventually started to raise their two children, Keith and Lacey in Dobbs Ferry. Hugh had worked for American Express Travel Division in various capacities and was then chosen to promoted to VP of the AMEX office in Hong Kong. It was a great opportunity, which the whole family embraced with great anticipation, and they all packed up happily and moved to Hong Kong.

Hugh's responsibility as General Manager soon expanded covering the entire Asia/Pacific area. As Vice President, Hugh ran the AMEX offices in Hong Kong, Japan, India, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia as far as Australia, New Zealand etc. While Hugh was managing the Asia/Pacific "world", Trudi and the children held the fort down in Hong Kong where the children attended the International School in Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island. Trudi volunteered in many capacities at the school but also volunteered to teach English at the local Chinese School in Stanley. She started her Real Estate career in relocation services assisting VIPs moving in and out of the Hong Kong area.

After a couple of years Hugh moved his Travel headquarters to Manila in the Philippines where they lived for several happy years. Again, the children attended the International School, Trudi volunteered at many institutions, continued her Real Estate relocation services and also ran a charity workshop for St. Luke's Hospital, Manila. This, in essence, was tied in with relocation as so many wives find themselves stranded when moved to totally unknown areas and have to get acclimated to new customs and lifestyles.

These years in Asia were the most wonderful experience and education the whole family totally enjoyed. However, due to the traveling schedules, both Keith and Lacey returned to the U.S. for most of their High School years, with three visits per year to their home overseas. Just before they entered college, (Lacey chose Wellesley and Keith went to Trinity) Hugh and Trudi returned to Westchester County, settled in Armonk and, shortly thereafter, Trudi started to work with Houlihan/Lawrence Real Estate, and Hugh was now VP of the Eastern Region Travel Offices for American Express.

Again, they were happily ensconced in Westchester but American Express decided Hugh would be the one and only person to represent the company in Beijing, China to set up a Travel Division relationship with the Chinese Government. Keith and Lacey were now at their respective colleges and Hugh and Trudi moved to Beijing. Well, another terrific opportunity for traveling and Real Estate relocation! They had a wonderful and fascinating time and were fortunate enough to travel all through China, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Manchuria, etc., a week at a time here and there and could add these experiences to the previous ones criss-crossing Asia and the Pacific. In addition to relocation services, Trudi was asked to teach English at 301 Hospital in Beijing, THE best one in China, and grew very fond of the doctors and nurses in the Cardiology Department who were very motivated students.

It was a terrific experience for Hugh and Trudi...one they will never forget. They finally returned to Armonk and have been here permanently and, of course, Trudi returned to Houlihan/Lawrence. Keith graduated from Trinity, joined the Air Force as Navigator, flying tanker refueling fighter jets in mid-air. He advanced to the rank of Colonel, is now in the Air Force Reserve and has seen action in Kosovo and Iraq. His #1 job is with American Express in Phoenix, Arizona where he lives with his family.

Lacey went on to do her Masters Degree at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University with an additional year in the Philippines under the auspices of Princeton. It was like homecoming for her. She eventually went into the financial world in New York City. She is an economist with Credit Suisse/First Boston is Managing Director for South America, where her business travels take her very frequently. When home, she lives in Manhattan.

The Gallaghers have been in Armonk since 1978. In 1983, Trudi joined Holihan Lawrence and devoted her time actively to Real Estate. Trudi is a very experienced, educated and dedicated Realtor, and is totally familiar with the area real estate market. When you work with Trudi, you will have a loyal and reliable Realtor whether you are looking to buy a home or sell yours.

Testimonials for Trudi Gallagher

"This letter is to commend Trudi Gallagher for all of her efforts and hard work in trying to find a home for our family. We initially called upon Trudi's services after some bad experiences with other realtors in the area and Trudi quickly made us feel more comfortable and introduced us to the area in a way that no one else had. She was very diligent and professional and thanks to Trudi, we recently moved into our new home."
S.G.

Just a note to let you know how much we appreciate all your time and input in helping us to find a home! It is indeed a pleasure to work with someone as professional as yourself." L.L.

"Trudi has been incredibly resourceful and tireless in finding two homes for us within 5 years. Both times we were under severe time restraints and Trudi was extremely helpful in smoothing out any "bumps in the road".

She also very ably handled the sale of our last home a few months ago and we can only very highly recommend Trudi. We feel she is the best realtor in Westchester County." T.C.

"I think you should know that we had the best experience in finding a home through Trudi Gallagher. We arrived from Belgium and were anxious to settle into a comfortable home without delay. We knew very little about the New York area but Trudi introduced us to a number of Westchester neighborhoods.

We quickly fell in love with a beautiful Colonial and Trudi was guiding us through all the phases of home buying right through to the closing. She has followed up on every little detail and has kept in touch with us to ease any newcomer anxieties. Houlihan Lawrence is very lucky to have Trudi amongst your agents." C.D.

Real Estate Tips
Titles >Holding Title to A Condo

With condominiums becoming increasingly popular among today's homebuyers, it is a good time to clarify the terms of ownership that seem to confuse many people. Condo-type residences most commonly fall into two categories - condominiums and townhouses.

A condominium is usually a multi-story structure. Each owner-resident has a deed of ownership for his own unit and owns the space within the unit, but not the land under the structure. Therefore, condo units can be stacked vertically. Condo owners share title to the common areas of the development, including land, exterior of buildings, hallways, roofs and swimming pools -- all areas used by all occupants. Each owner pays property taxes on their unit. Also, a monthly fee is paid to the homeowners' association that is used for managing and maintaining all common areas.

A townhouse, or town home community is usually a series of single- or two-story housing units, each linked to each other horizontally by common walls. Each owner hold title to their unit and the land beneath it, thus these units cannot be stacked vertically. Typically, a townhouse unit will be a two-story residence, with the living area downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. Common areas belonging to the townhouse development are owned jointly. Each townhouse owner pays property taxes and association fees.
